Sierra doesn't seem to have the capability of sending a notice upon placing a hold/request, is that correct? This is absolutely standard behavior for online ordering--you place an order, you get a confirmation.

Has anyone overcome this limitation? I can see how we could do it with a JS/PHP solution, but ideally this would be done on the back end. Is there any way to have Sierra send a notice upon placing a hold?

Correct. No notice sent when hold is placed.

Because holds are typically placed one title at a time, rather than the shopping cart/basket model used in e-commerce, I think there would need to be some intelligent batching of any notifications or they could quickly get too noisy for patrons and then they might start ignoring all notices. In principle, I agree that some sort of confirmation notification is a good concept though.
