We recently loaded enough bib records into our Millennium system that the newer records now have 9 digits. The older bib records before this point still have 8 digits. Now we have the problem that we cannot overlay bib records that have 9-digit numbers using the "ov" command in the 949 field in the OCLC record. We get an error message that we have an invalid check digit and the overlay fails. Overlaying bib records with 8-digit numbers still works fine; also, we can overlay the 9-digit bibs using the @ldx trigger but for some reason not with the 949 ov command.

Has this happened to anyone else? Do you know how you resolved it? We have a call open with III but wanted to check with everyone here, too.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I have not encountered this. Depending on your workflows, I might suggest a possible work around. You could try replacing the 9th character with the character 'a'. Generally, the ‘a’ can act as a wild card for the check digit (which might work in your case). Apologies if this suggestion was unwarranted.

Good luck on getting the issue addressed.
