Wilkes University invites applicants for an Archivist/ Public Services Librarian in the Farley Library, a progressive and active supporter of student learning which has undergone three recent renovations within a four-stage renovation plan.

The successful candidate is responsible for coordinating and supervising the activities of the Wilkes University Archives and library special collections, including arranging and describing collections using archival standards, coordinating preservation activities, providing archives reference services, and supervising one .5FTE archives assistant. The University Archives is Wilkes’ Institutional memory and supports research for faculty, students, staff, alumni, and outside researchers studying the history of Wilkes University and the Wyoming Valley. The archivist works closely with the Technical Services department to coordinate the cataloging and collection management of rare books. A Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution is required; a focus in Archives and Special Collections or SAA certification is preferred. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with Archives management, Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Encoded Archival Description (EAD), Dublin Core, coursework and/or training in archival theory, methodology, issues, and trends, knowledge of records management issues and best practices, knowledge of best practices for born-digital records, experience with archives reference, experience with digitization of print collections, and experience with Archon, ArchivesSpace, and Omeka.

Secondary responsibilities include library reference support, library instruction, liaison duties, and library planning. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and with a team, commitment to using new and emerging technology to advance work goals and to enhance and ensure a high level of user satisfaction, and enthusiasm and flexibility for working in an innovative, evolving environment is essential. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
