You must be registered for the main conference to select pre-conference sessions.

If you are planning to register for a pre-conference session offered on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, there are limited spaces. If your desired session is unavailable when you register, you may select the option to be placed on a waiting list. If a spot becomes available, you will be notified via e-mail.

Morning Pre-conference Sessions

A1 - Public Library Consortia Meeting (Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 9:00AM - 12:00PM)

Presented by Tom Jacobson. Managing data and policies across public library consortia has unique challenges. Join your colleagues and Innovative staff for a half-day pre-conference focused on the unique needs and experiences of Public Library Consortia. Open to public consortia and member libraries using any Innovative system. This session includes roundtable and panel discussions on the topics of policy decisions, effective reporting and metrics, collection development, and future planning. Continental breakfast is included.

A2 - Staying on Script: Using Python scripting (Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 9:30AM - 12:00PM)

Presenter: Jason Boland. Description: Python is an easy to use scripting language that can be employed to write small non-professional programs with both Sierra and Polaris. This session will introduce the programs that can be used to write Python scripts. It will also cover introduction level training on using Python. While API and SQL applications are beyond the scope of this class, the topics will be introduced.

A3 - Modernizing Sierra Acquisitions (Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 9:30AM - 12:00PM)

Presented by: Mike McClellan Description: This preconference will discuss EDIFACT ordering and invoicing, Acquisitions API, and Quick Click to maximize staff efficiency by modernizing acquisitions. The session will cover the differences between EDIFACT, Acq API, and Quick Click, setup, workflows, and working with vendors for the different products, how it affects grids.


Afternoon Pre-conference Sessions

B1- Metadata, Linked Data, and BIBFRAME, oh my! (Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 1:30PM - 4:00PM)

Presenter: Martha Rice Sanders Description: This pre-conference begins by summarizing metadata’s journey beyond MARC. We then dig into what Linked Data is, the structure of LC’s BIBFRAME and how it uses linked data, the conversion of MARC data into linked data using the BIBFRAME converter, and how linked data and BIBFRAME inform Innovative’s new platform, Inspire.

B2 - Data under control - a fresh look at Polaris Authority Control (Wednesday April 15, 2019, 1:30PM - 4:00PM)

Presenter: Michelle Ralston Description: Would you like to be an Authority on Authority Control in Polaris? We will show you how, in this pre-conference. You will learn to create, import, modify and even delete authority records in order to bring hidden gems of your library to the fingertips of your patrons.

B3 - A primer on how to make your print templates work for you (Wednesday, April 15, 2019, 1:30PM - 4:00PM)

Presenter: Joe Wojtowicz Description: This pre-conference will teach you how to set up JasperSoft for customizing print templates as well as how to customize templates for a few of the most regularly used print jobs. We will see a few circulation and acquisitions templates, and discuss a variety of resources for those new to print templates.


All Day Pre-conference Session

C1 - Introduction to SQL (Polaris and Sierra) (Wednesday, April 15, 2020, 9:00AM - 4:00PM)

Presented by Jeremy Goldstein and Trevor Diamond Take your reporting skills to the next level with SQL with this all day pre-conference designed for both Sierra and Polaris users. We'll start the day with basic concepts, including how to access your data and what software to use. Then we'll introduce everything you need to know to successfully write your own queries. The day will wrap up with separate break out groups for Polaris and Sierra to talk about how to navigate the data of each system.


Conference Cancellation/Refund Policy
Written requests for refunds when the main conference or one day registration is canceled must be postmarked or electronically submitted by Tuesday, March 31, 2020. A cancellation fee of $25.00 will be deducted from the refund.

Pre-conference or optional meal functions may be canceled in writing or electronically. A full refund will be issued for these items.

No telephone or voicemail refund/cancellation requests will be accepted.

Any refund requests received after March 31, 2020 will be referred to the IUG Steering Committee officers for consideration and must be exceptional in nature. A cancellation fee of $75.00 will be assessed.

All refunds will be issued within 20 days of the end of the conference.
