Re: [IUG] Self- check problem

Now the system should stop people from being able to check out material which has a hold on it by another patron. Our 3M self checks will not allow this to happen. If another person has a hold on a book another cannot check it out. It blocks the check out. We have open holds and if the machine did not block this we would have such an issue.
Page # 106378 - It says right in the manual that the system will block items with a status of on hold shelf unless it is the person at the top of the queque. I realize that does not say that it will block check out if item has a hold but does not have a status of on hold shelf -but I believe we have tested this and it does work - as long as there is a hold and the person trying to check out isn't the first one in line. I'll have to test this.
I just did and it let me check out the item even though it had a hold for someone else - it did not have a status of on hold shelf.
We'll I can see how this would be an issue.
If anyone finds a solution to this let me know. We would not want people to be able to circumvent the holds process. I don't recall getting complaints that folks weren't getting their holds - but I definitely need to look into this now.
Thanks for bringing this up.

This is a long standing problem for us too. We
have a few patrons who have discovered that not
only can they check our material on a self-check
that is already checked out to another patron but
this is allowed even when there is a hold for
another patron. We have families that trade books
among themselves and their friends for months on
end. Very frustrating for staff, but I haven't
yet found anyway to prevent it through the
Innovative software nor can 3M suggest anything.
It has been months since I've worked on this so I
may have the details wrong but as I recall we
want patrons who find a book on the shelf that
missed getting checked in to be able to check out
the item and this setting then allows the self-check to do it too.
