Re: [IUG] Self- check problem
[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]
This is how our self checks (3M) have always worked. We are on Release 2006. I don't think we ever considered this an issue (we have never had complaints from customers that materials they had checked out and were using in the library were taken by someone else). So we have never researched changing this setting. Now that we have self check in any changes we did make would be moot. Since someone could just check in on self check and then back out again.
There is not a lot of documentation on self check functionality with III (unless maybe you use Express Lane). I have had to research other issues with our self checks and found little information. What was always most helpful was talking with 3M who seemed to know more about the fuunctionality of the machines even in relation to the ILS end than III did.

Subject: [IUG] Self- check problem
Hi,
We have discovered, that after update to version 2007 it's now possible for
a patron to check out via a self check station books that already are
checked out to another patron.
We have tested this on several third-party self stations of different makes.
A patron checks out items and e.g. have these items on his/her desk. Another
patron comes and sees these books and finds them interesting, goes to self
check station and checks them out. If the books are not reserved for
someone, if there is no queue, anyone can check them out without problem via
a self check station.
This will create some problems and confusion with patrons wondering where
their literature is. When asking staff will inform them that another patron
has checked out the items.
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour on their site?
I have opened a call for this at Innovative.
Any tip or hint how to solve this is appreciated!
Regards,
Martin
