General Description:. Under the general direction of the Head of the ILS
Office, and in collaboration with the Director of Collections and
Circulation Operations, manages the ILS circulation module and supervises
assigned staff. Plans and coordinates the migration of automated
circulation operations to a new integrated library system, overseeing
development of system parameters and standards; support for, and
implementation of, new circulation software functionality, and
documentation of local policies and standards. Works closely in task forces
and other working groups to craft circulation standards and practices and
recommends circulation policy to Senior Management. Works closely with the
ILS vendor to define and create enhanced software and document and resolve
issues and errors; in collaboration with the ILS Manager and library-wide
staff ensures the integrity of circulation data. Takes a lead role in
developing staff training programs, manuals and tools including
vendor-designed online training. Designs circulation-related notices and
manages communication with library users regarding circulation-related
transactions via print, telephone, and email. Manages the Library's
collection agency program, recommending guidelines and working closely with
vendors to ensure compliance with patron privacy policies. Plans and
executes a patron registration program including design and implementation
of new personalization services, management of patron self-registration by
external users, and distribution of a new OneNYPL library card. Contributes
to the development of a marketing strategy to promote Library services via
the new ILS and the availability of the new library-wide card. Manages
system-wide ordering and distribution of supplies, including patron and
item barcodes, forms, card stock, brochures and related materials.
Collaborates with the Strategic Planning Office to design metrics and
reports that effectively measure circulation, collection use, and other
system related activities and coordinates the distribution of reports and
statistics to all units. Represents the Library at user conferences and
programs related to circulation and the ILS. Supervises the ILS office in
the absence of the ILS Manager. Performs related duties as needed.
Eligibility Requirements: ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library and
Information Studies and substantial relevant professional experience.
Substantive experience in circulation or access services in a large
multi-branch public or research library demonstrating increasing
responsibilities in managing services and processes related to circulation
and delivery of materials to library users. Demonstrated knowledge of
current trends in circulation services to multi-faceted user populations.
Successfully demonstrated ability to understand and relate circulation and
collection use policies to system parameters and infrastructure and to
translate system capabilities to a variety of audiences to aid in
appropriate and feasible circulation policy decisions. Successfully
demonstrated ability to analyze workflow and workload, establish efficient
procedures and policies as they relate to circulation module usage, and
effectively communicate them. Successfully demonstrated experience
supervising staff. Knowledge if statistical data relevant to measuring
collection usage. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication
skills. Successfully demonstrated ability to work well independently, in a
team environment, and in a complex and evolving organization. Successfully
demonstrated computer skills in office productivity software, including
Word and Excel. Successfully demonstrated project management experience.
Experience using an online circulation module in an integrated library
system and in library operations preferred
