[IUG] Checkout notices

We would like to send out email notices to the patron when an item has
been checked out.    It should be automatic in other words no work on
the part of the staff.   Right now I can set it up to send out the
notices at the end of the day for the items that are checked out.
They would like something a little more immediate.   
 
Had anyone done anything like this?  
 
Note we are on the latest release  (2006) with webpac pro.  We are an
oracle site.  About 95-99% of the items we check out are mailed to our
patrons.  We want the notices to let them know it is on the way.
