- Subject: [IUG] Steering Committee Elections - Call for Nominations (Deadline: Wednesday March 12, 2008)
Hi --
In this all-important election season, it makes sense that I send out a
reminder about the deadline for Steering Committee nominations.
There are only six days left to throw in your name to run for Innovative
Users Group Steering Committee.
The nominations period will close next Wednesday (March 12th) at 8pm
(Eastern Time). Please contact me via email (cseeman at umich dot edu) if you
are interested or if you have any questions about the process. Unlike
the full primaries, we are promoting and encouraging Michigan and
Florida candidates to run AND we are even going to count their votes.
Here is the original message about running for IUG Steering Committee:
The Innovative User Group is one of the leading library technology
organizations, focused on facilitating the way that we use this system
in our libraries. As a member of the Steering Committee, you could help
plan annual conference, work on the website, contribute new ideas, and
create connections between libraries that use Innovative Interfaces,
Inc. software. I have been so fortunate to have been a Steering
Committee member these past five years and truly believe that it is a
great opportunity to contribute back to the profession.
This winter we will elect a Vice Chair/Chair Elect and three
Members-at-Large. For new Steering Committee members, terms begin on the
last day of the annual conference (Wednesday April 30, 2008). New
Steering Committee members will be required to attend the meeting at
4:30 pm on the last day of the Washington, D.C. Conference (Wednesday
April 30th). The Members-at-Large serve two year terms. The Vice Chair
serves one year as Vice Chair, one year as Chair and one year as Past
Chair (for a total of three years).
Duties
All Steering Committee members speak for the membership, serve on ad hoc
working groups and provide advice to the Chair. The Vice Chair serves as
Chair of the Program Committee for the Annual Conference, then will
oversee all conference planning during the year they serve as Chair. The
Members-at-Large work in teams to oversee the IUG Clearinghouse and the
IUG Enhancements Process, as well as assist with various conference
planning activities. Please feel free to contact any member of the
Steering Committee
http://innovativeusers.org/about/steering.htm about
serving on the Steering Committee.
Meetings
The Steering Committee has four regularly scheduled meetings during the
year. Two are during the Annual Conference, and there is one each at ALA
Annual and ALA Midwinter. Attendance at the Midwinter ALA meetings is
mandatory for all Steering Committee members, but the meeting at ALA
Annual is just attended by the SC Officers [Chair, Vice-Chair, Past
Chair, Secretary-Treasurer, Financial Consultant]. All Steering
Committee members are expected to attend the Annual IUG Conference. The
arrival date is generally two days before the Pre-Conference day and you
should remain through the first meeting of the incoming Steering
Committee, just after the final session on the final day of the Main
Conference, departing on the day after the conference if necessary to
meet that obligation. For example, if you were a Steering Committee
member this year you would be expected to be in Washington from Friday
April 25 to Thursday May 1, 2008.
Compensation
Compensation includes free conference registration, complimentary hotel
room for the duration of the Annual Conference, including the extra days
of Steering Committee commitment, an assortment of free meals and many
opportunities to have fun. A stipend is also supplied to support
attendance at the ALA Steering Committee meetings held at ALA Annual and
ALA Midwinter.
Nominations
Interested? Fantastic! Here's what you need to do. Please send me an
email (cseeman at umich dot edu) with the following information:
Name
Office you are interested in
Picture
A biographical sketch describing your recent work history and reasons
for candidacy
It is our hope that the Steering Committee can represent the diversity
of libraries that are customers of Innovative. To that end, please be
sure that your biographical information clearly states what type of
library you work in and the size of your III database [e.g. number of
bib, item, and patron records]. Please see these biographical sketches
from last year:

I will confirm the nominations as I receive them. If you do not hear
from me within a day or so, please write me to confirm that I received
it. I will then prepare a ballot for the users.
Calendar

Call for nominations Deadline: Wednesday March 12, 2008

If you have any questions about running for Steering Committee member,
please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Much like high school,

advantage of this opportunity to help this great organization grow
further yet!
