Hi Ginny,
We ran all of our notices and reports on a Tally with Dynix. Now we
use any laserjet model the person has who runs the notices and reports.
I run them on a laserjet 2100 (older model), someone else could run them
on a different laser printer. It needs to have some memory or it
crawls. We switched from crash mailers a few years back and now use
window envelopes and manually stuff them. We're small and have few
notices so it's manageable. I know this is not a viable alternative for
larger libraries so hopefully others will respond.

Subject: [IUG] System printer recommendations
We are a new (consoritum) site and are looking for system printer
recommendations. We currently are a Classic Dynix site that has 2
continuous-fed system printers. One library uses an Okidata 590 to
print notices for their single site and Stark uses a Tally 2130n to
print notices for 19 sites.
Our sales rep said III sells HP LaserJet 4250n, 4200n, 4100n and 4050n
printers.
We would like to know what printers other libraries are using and should
we give up the continuous-fed printers and switch to laser printers?
Are there consortiums that have sites using continuous-fed printers and
laser printers? If so I'd be interested in learning more about the
setups.
Any recommendations or comments you would like to share would be greatly
appreciated.
Thanks for helping out a newbie.
