All the barcode mask does is allow you to enter the common element of
your barcodes so that the patron need only enter the significant part.
For example, all our barcodes start with 23051, so that could be the
mask the user would not need to enter.
After thinking and talking about it for a while, we decided it was
harder to explain about the mask than to just have 'em enter it all. If
it would ignore the mask if the patron entered it anyway, that would be
different, but it does not.
