There was an earlier discussion on this notification issue but I did not see a resolution. I would like to know if the ONLY way to "automatically" notify patrons of items received, i.e. cataloged, is by placing a hold on the item and checking it in.

Ideally, we would like to notify patrons that a requested title has been processed and is in our circulating stacks, but not place it on hold.
