Dear innopac users:

We are in the process of evaluating our Millenium homepage. The current version is about 1-1/2 years old. We want to look at patron use of our links to databases and links to 100+ internet sites provided on our homepage, as well as usage of our catalog.

Our IS dept. said that our server's "web logs" would provide this information. When asked, Innovative help desk said such logs (apparently inaccessible to the library) continually overwrite, with no more than a few minutes to a few hours of information. We would want much more information than that. Our IS dept. also suggested installing Web Trends on our server to record web usage; Innovative said that would be a special request, implying it is unusual and not recommended.

So, we would appreciate hearing from other libraries how they gather patron web usage information from their Millenium servers.

We also have a challenge with our catalog use statistics. While Innopac provides search statistics in the "Analyze Patron Searches" menu option, data is attributed to one terminal number on our system. That may be due to our network's dynamic ip address allocation system. As a result, there is no way to distinguish between staff usage and our patron usage. The Help desk has opened a call . . . Have other libraries found a solution to this?

Hope to hear from others with these interests.
