Although I have not yet tested the "period at end of fields" and how it
relates, we have a call ticket open with III regarding the failure of
"return to browse" Bob mentions near the end of his e-mail. It is c653114,
HALAN. Our description of the observed problem is as follows:

We have found an intermittent problem with the WebOPAC's Browse search,
Limit this Search, and Return to Browse function. We are running Release
2002 Phase 2. The additional upgrade performed on our system this morning
[January 9, 2003] did not correct the problem.

The following sequence is involved:
1.	Choose Browse Search in our WebOPAC. (We tested both with a title
search for Mists of Avalon and an author search for Frost, Robert)
2.	Perform the search to bring up a Browse list.
3.	Choose one of the lines that brings up another browse list. (For
example, from this first browse list for Frost, Robert, choose the line for
Frost Robert 1874 1963 which at this writing has 100 records.)
4.	Click on Limit search and perform a single limit. (We tested Mists
of Avalon limited to Books on Tape, and the Frost list limited to location
Montrose.)
5.	From the browse list resulting from the limit, choose a record.
6.	From the bib record display, click on Return to Browse. About 50
percent of the time, this will return you correctly to the browse list. The
rest of the time, you are returned to the Limit Search screen, with the
notation at the top "No items found matching specified limit."

IMO, this is a pretty severe bug, as the type of searching which leads to
the situation described is one we teach.

I've just confirmed that it exists in our Phase 2 WebPAC. (I've also
tested a few PACs which I believe have not yet upgraded to Phase 2, and the
problem does not appear to exist.)

And as Craig reported, the problem exists regardless of whether or not the
link text ends with a period. Here's my summary of testing for it:

(1) Do any search.
(2) Go to any record from the results.
(3) Follow a link from the record. (One that you think will result in
multiple records.)
(4) If you get a browse list, follow a link for an entry with multiple
records (doesn't have to be the link from step 3).
(5) Limit the search. (Use a criterion which will result in multiple
records; sorting by year does the trick in our PAC.)
(6) Go to any record.

My consistently duplicated results:
- No "Next Record" button.
- A "Previous Record" button appears (if appropriate) and works correctly.
- "Return to Browse" sometimes goes back to a Limit/Search screen which
displays the message "No items found matching specified limit"; sometimes
"Return to Browse" behaves properly.
