We have been using the 995 workstation at our loans counter for more than 2
years and are very happy with its functionality. I would say we wouldn't
like to work without it especially when the volume of loans is high. The
one-step scan and desensitising of the books makes high volume transactions
an easier task. The 3M workstation scanner has been able to scan [with
ease] all the item and borrower barcodes of different printed quality
without problems [compared with the other CCD and laser scanners that we
use]. Also we could connect another different handheld scanner to the PC
attached to the workstation at the same time. This way, we can immediately
switch if the workstation scanner gives problems and not experience any
service disruption.
Problems encountered ? the scanner malfunctioned only once after 2 years.
It was changed [only the IC board needed to be replaced] for us within an
hour of calling the 3M service personnel.
We deploy other CCD and laser scanners as well. However, these did not
always scan some of the barcodes on the students cards printed on highly
reflective plastic cards.

IUG Listserve,
We currently use Intermec scanners, but one of our libraries is asking
about the possible purchase of a 3M Staff Workstation Model 995, which is a
workstation/scanner for the purpose of charging and discharging materials.
It connects to existing equipment. I was wondering if anyone is using this
product, and how do you like it ?
