I'm wondering if anyone using Patron Chooses (item level) holds has
seen strange error messages in the system message log. Here is an
example:
tty31682 readreq: 1003141033 Cannot place hold on .i0 because:
Record i00 does not exist
Before we upgraded to Release 2001 I was able to replicate this error
message by trying to place a hold in telnet OPAC on an item which is the
only item attached to a bib record. After we installed Release 2001 I
tried again and everything seemed to be working fine.
Our students returned this week and I started seeing this error message
in the system message log once again - several times a day. I know that
students think a hold has been placed because that's what INNOPAC tells
them at the time. Only later when the request is automatically processed
it fails and this message appears in the log. We encourage students to
use self-service functions and at this time of year failed hold requests
are bad publicity.
If I can replicate the error (as I could do before R2001) I can post some
warning but right now I cannot replicate the error. I've tried almost
every combination I could think of. Obviously I have an open call with
the helpdesk but I'm interested to know if anyone else has come across
this error message and knows under what circumstances hold requests are
failing. Thanks for any input.
