Dear Brian Moore and other colleagues,
I was so busy that I haven't been following the IUG list until today. Even this
question is more than one month old and there are some good replies, I want
to post an answer and suggest you all not to use Imation branded DAT tapes
as I had a very bad experience with them :
I wanted to buy new tapes as we had been using our older HP tapes were 2-3
years old. The university has bought us five Imation tapes. I had troubles with
three of them in six months! Two of the faulty Imation tapes are being
automatically
ejected as soon as I insert the tapes into the drive and the third one has been
rejected by the unattended backup program. I think there is a mechanical problem
with the tapes, because I was able to initialize the faulty tapes for a few times
although
they have mostly failed during my tests. We have replaced the Imation tapes with
HP
tapes again as only one HP tape was ejected after three years of usage out of
seven.
Sincerely,
Yunus Emre Selcuk
