Another consideration is whether you will need to install security
software. This can be a major drain on resources, especially in
slower machines with little RAM.
We have had great success with our configuration:
Dell Optiplex GX110 w/ 128MB RAM & 500MHZ (see NOTE below)
Windows NT 4 w SP4 (some with SP6)-Networked
Netscape 4.08 Stand-Alone browser (no mail or newsgroups)
Acrobat Reader 4.0 (for some of our electronic databases)
WinSelect version 5 (for locking down Netscape & Acrobat)
Fortres 101 (for file security and for locking down the desktop)
We will soon be adding Pharos pay-for-print options
NOTE: Although this sounds like a lot of machine for a web
based catalog, it isn't really. This is because we use our
catalog stations for access to our online databases as well.
Some of our database pages are image intensive or use lots of
frames, etc. in their designs. We all know how frustrating it is
to sit and wait for a page to load--especially on a balky
machine. So, in my opinion, it is better to think of the
catalog stations as scaled down Internet stations and build
from there.
For machines that will be using Millenium products, we use the
same configuration as above, less the security software. III has
minimum system requirements at:

Hope this helps!
